Overview
The Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs LXi is a compact, portable vital signs device measuring blood pressure, pulse rate, SpO2, and temperature. This guide covers service procedures and calibration for biomedical technicians.
System Specifications
- NIBP Range: 40-270 mmHg (systolic), 10-245 mmHg (diastolic)
- SpO2 Range: 0-100% (±2% accuracy from 70-100%)
- Pulse Rate: 25-240 BPM (±3 BPM or ±5%)
- Temperature: 86-113°F oral (±0.2°F accuracy)
- Power: Rechargeable Li-Ion battery or AC adapter
Calibration Procedures
Blood Pressure Calibration
- Access service mode (hold Start button during power-on)
- Connect blood pressure simulator
- Perform zero calibration
- Test at 80/50, 120/80, 200/100 mmHg
- Acceptable variance: ±3 mmHg
SpO2 Verification
- Connect pulse oximeter simulator
- Test at 85%, 90%, 95%, 99% saturation
- Verify pulse rate accuracy
- Acceptable variance: ±2% SpO2, ±3 BPM pulse
Temperature Calibration
- Use certified temperature calibrator
- Test at 96°F, 98.6°F, 102°F
- Acceptable variance: ±0.2°F
- Replace probe if out of tolerance
Common Problems
Battery Not Holding Charge
Resolution: Battery typically lasts 2-3 years. Replace if capacity <60% of original. Part available from Welch Allyn service.
SpO2 Errors
Check: Sensor cable integrity, proper sensor type (Masimo or Nellcor), clean connectors, verify with simulator
Maintenance Schedule
- Monthly: Clean device, verify battery charge, spot-check accuracy
- Quarterly: Complete functional test, battery conditioning
- Annual: Full calibration, electrical safety testing, replace consumables
Disclaimer: For qualified technicians. Follow manufacturer procedures for calibration.
